The first three episodes of constellation Premieres on February 21, and follows an astronaut named Jo (Noomi Rapace), who is part of a small crew working on the International Space Station. Also aboard the ship is a mysterious and experimental NASA device – and as soon as it is turned on for testing, the whole thing falls apart. Something breaks on the ISS, and when Jo goes out to make repairs, she swears she sees the body of an old astronaut. Ultimately, the rest of the crew aboard the ISS is forced to evacuate due to damage, while Joe remains behind to repair the escape pod and hopefully return to Earth.
Ultimately Jo returns safely, which yes, is a small spoiler, but also important to the structure of the show, as the story rotates between her time on the ISS and her life after returning to Earth. (And even though you know he’s alive, those moments are still unbelievably Tense.) It’s a story full of mysteries, with the same origins as a NASA gadget. The project is led by a famous American astronaut named Henry (Jonathan Banks), who won a Nobel Prize decades ago but now makes guest appearances at sci-fi conventions and is desperate to return to the forefront of scientific discovery. . Initially, all we really know about his research is that it involves the discovery of another state of matter, which is apparently only possible in a zero-gravity environment, and Henry is so determined to unravel this mystery. They care more about its consequences. The test comes at a higher price than any human life.
Whatever the case, the experiment has some very noticeable side effects, especially on Joe. Everything initially seems fine after his impossible return to Earth; She immediately reunites with her husband and daughter and tries to have something resembling a normal life. But eventually it became clear that things were not normal.
First of all, these are the small details; Joe forgets what color the family car is and mixes up his friend’s name. It gets weirder – and darker – from there. When Jo is narrating what happened during the ISS disaster, her memory is different from that of the rest of the crew. Visions of Joe hint at a strange difference between her current self and who she used to be, and Rapace’s performance almost makes it feel like you’re watching two different characters at times. At some points, constellation Zero-G offers psychological horror, with unsettling voices floating around, blood and mutilated body parts, and constant time jumps, making it difficult to tell what is real and what is Joe’s hallucination. I brought up night country First because the shows have a similar atmosphere (and not just because they both have key scenes where someone searches in the dark in a snowstorm). They’re slow-working, taking time to share important clues and information, and sometimes obscuring them under awkwardness or horror.
