Fans will never stop discussing or perhaps lamenting, end of game of Thrones, Whether you love it, hate it, or were somewhere in betweenAudience Choices David Benioff and DB Weiss The ending to his epic series was famously divisive. However, it seems there was even more uncertainty surrounding the conclusion and much of it took place off-screen.
In a new interview with wall street journalBenioff and Weiss confirm a rumor throne producer george rr martin was released several years ago, He actually pushed the idea of ending HBO game of Thrones Not with one season of television, but with three films. However this idea was quickly rejected when officials reminded him that he had “Home Box Office “No”away Box Office.”
The same interview, which is mostly about the pair’s latest show, 3 physical problems on netflix, it also turns out they were asked if it would be possible to shoot the show vertically, so it could be watched on a phone, or if they could make the episodes short enough to enjoy on the go. Thankfully, those ideas didn’t come to fruition but they all reflect the environment Benioff and Weiss were trying to create the show after AT&T purchased HBO. Weiss said, “Dysfunction destroys more projects than anything else, whether it’s interpersonal dysfunction or institutional dysfunction.”
Putting aside the Quibi version of hell scenario game of thronesS, which is horrible to think about, the idea of the movies may or may not have made sense. Could it have been good and exciting and potentially special? Absolutely. But historically, adapting TV shows into films has, for the most part, been a mixed bag financially. Even after seven seasons of TV, there’s no guarantee viewers will come. Nor is there any indication that the films will have changed the style of storytelling at all. The final six episodes (and the seven seasons before that, obviously) were all epic and cinematic in scope and form. And three films, two hours each, still works out to six hours. So maybe what we got was basically the same thing, just edited a little differently.
Really, the big thing here is that the fates of Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Brandon Stark, and others were as unpredictable as the audience saw them. And that there was a lot of negotiation and uncertainty on both sides seems like a good excuse for what we got in the end.
