Managing social presence can be difficult these days. It’s even harder for those who are experimenting with the new wave of services like Twitter Mastodon, OurAnd Blue Sky, where being active means posting a lot of duplicates on different networks. Thankfully, developers are starting to meet our needs for cross-posting tools. In addition to scheduling services such as fedica And postponeNow there is a new app, notesWhich allows you to post to Mastodon, Nostra and Bluesky from one interface.
While we are still waiting for the launch of multi-service social networking and news trackers, like a tapestry, Nutty’s iOS app can at least save you some effort when you want to share a post with your followers on the three more popular Twitter/X alternatives. Plus, using Apple’s native “Share via…” option, you can cross-post the same message to any other app you choose, like X or Meta threads. (A clever solution is given threads api not yet open and x is very expensive For use by indie developers.)
notes, whose name means “note” in Finnish, is largely useless. It won’t offer all the bells and whistles that come with posting directly to the platform, like the ability to add polls and alt text to images, or get hashtag suggestions, as it does on Mastodon. However, if you have a simple text (or text-plus-media) post, Nooty is capable. As you type in the text entry box, Nooty counts how many characters you have left. You can also upload media from your Camera Roll if you want, then tap the envelope icon to send it to Post.
To use Nooty, you first need to configure your accounts in Settings. (Note that you can use an app password for Bluesky instead of your main password, even if that option isn’t written into the app.)
What makes Nooty attractive is that you can easily adapt each post slightly for different platforms. To do this, you first type your post in the “Main” tab, then switch to the other social network’s tab. The post will populate automatically on each tab, but you can edit the message for individual networks. For example, you can take a more playful vibe with your posts on Bluesky, while adding hashtags to your posts on Mastodon. When you press the envelope icon, the customized set of messages is published to all three networks at once.
Developer Petri Cajander says he created Nutty for himself.
“The current state of social media is fragmentation and, if you just wait, it will not change the status quo. You need to be active to be part of the change,” he says. “Many people have stopped posting altogether or are only in one place. This means you have to expand your presence to multiple locations but it takes a lot more time. “Since no single network is a clear winner, the best strategy is to post in multiple locations but maintain local engagement on that network and customize each post to each platform,” says Cajander.
He explains that he also doesn’t believe in auto-posting, which is why he wanted an app that required you to write your posts yourself.
notes is one Download for free on the App StoreBut Cajender is now developing a paid version, he says, though they haven’t yet decided what revenue model it will use.
Cajander said they also haven’t made any decisions about supporting other networks like Threads, or whether it will still be needed once it becomes a federated app using the ActivityPub protocol. Meanwhile, you can cross-post to another app with the share button within Nooty.
